City Love Wedding

Lauren and AB
Capitol Theatre, Pta

This must have been one of the most awesomest weddings we ever got to document. Lauren and AB are good friends of ours and we were super excited when they asked us to shoot their wedding.
When Lauren told me that they are getting married at the Capitol Theater (Pretoria's legendary old time theatre) AND that she was taking a bus into town instead of a car, I couldn't sleep for nights. Yep, I was a bit worried cause it might be a bit dodgy as town center isn't what it used to be and no one we know really takes the bus anymore... BUT, wow, I was so excited to shoot that! And how cool is it that they got married in the heart of the city in spite of that... because they love the city. Awesome.

"The bride is always fashionably late"
So obviously we got to the bus stop 7 minutes (I know) late and thought we had missed the bus! But Lauren was adamant that we wait. Which made some awesome pictures...

and then... the bus came!!! And it wasn't dodgy at all!

I do say this to all of the brides that I photograph, but I think I'm allowed to be biased in this case and it's safe to say that my awesome friend was quite definitely the most beautiful bride I have ever seen. x

The rest of the day was spent eating Royal Danish Ice Cream and drinking Cola's in Church Square, a lot of bad-a$$ posing on AB's side, lots of funny swedish-afrikaans speeches, good food and awesome dessert, a hilarious photo booth and of course a lot of dancing!

More portrait studio madness!

They left the old fashioned way which couples don't ever do anymore. Ab is a Beetle drivin' man and with cans tied to the back it was a fitting exit for our two great friends.

Long Overdue -

Sasha and James,
Kievits Kroon, Pta

When the bride is a Chef you know the food is going to be something special and boy oh boy was it something at Sasha and James' wedding. Barrels of cherries, wheels of fabulous cheese and in Travis's very own words "...wow babe, that's almost a whole table of parma ham " !! It was a feast for the belly as well as the eye.

All the guests were bused off to a little piece of heaven belonging to Sasha's family just outside Pretoria for the ceremony. It was an interesting ride and a beautiful ceremony. Then it was back on the bus headed for Kievits Kroon for the reception, where more great food, dancing and photo-booth madness was to come.

James was a little camera shy so we grabbed Sasha and ran into the bush. These pictures look as though we fussed over them for hours but we didn't. Sasha is a stunning women and with so much grace, the session was over in 3 shots. Nice!

They booked the best band we have ever seen at a wedding! Seriously these guys entertained us for hours, and even tought us how to do the "mash-potata" - propa! Check them out at http://www.myspace.com/lonehillestate

We built a photo-booth and as was to be expected - madness descended!

love made me do it...

Maike has finally decided to get herself a blog where she can let her female creativity come to life. Head over to her blog 'love made me do it' for some awesome home, jewellery and wedding planning inspiration.

wearegettingmarried

Since welovepictures is getting married this year, we thought maybe we should blog about our own wedding for a change. We just got back from Cape Town today (our new home after the wedding), and it has gotten us super excited about the awesome year ahead. I've been head down organizing all sorts of beautiful little crazy bits and we just sent out our 'Save the Date' the other day. We had lotsa fun being the photographeee's, not the photographers, for a change. Thanx to our awesome friend Migi ( http://migilinders.blogspot.com/ )for doing the hard work... we all know photographing photographers is not the easiest thing in the world. xxx

Jorn and Angela

"So how do you pronounce it" ? ? ? travis said. "Jorn, it's german" replied Jorn "Oh like yawn, that's easy enough" came travis' poor attempt. "No man, more like yearn, like yearning you know" ? "Sh!t sorry man, i didn't mean to imply you are a bore or anything" said travis, cheeks glowing read with embarrassment.

Luckilly for us Jorn is such an easy going, gentleman of a guy and instead of swinging he took it in his stride. What are they like, well Angela is sweet and reserved, Jorn is charming and well, not so reserved. He's crazy actually. He kept pulling faces and breaking out raging bull horns, being the rocker that he is.

They chose Mongena lodge in the Greater Dinokeng Nature Reserve to host their wedding. Travis was a little reserved about another bush wedding but couldn't contain himself as the sun sank on the dense green bush colouring everything warm and glowing. "It's just pretty, i take it back" he said.

We have decided to share some of the more candid documentary pictures from the day. We have been so deep into crazy portrait set up's of late so we are glad to see the doci shots aren't completely lost on us.

Enjoy

Izak and Riette

Wow, has it really been a month since we made a post on the blog? Sorry guys, we've been busier than we thought. We'll catch up with all we've missed over the next few days.

Anyway back to Izak and Riette. They are awesome people! I know we say that about every couple we shoot , but it's true and especially true of them. We really do have great people as clients. It makes the job a whole bunch easier.

The wedding was held at Izak's family home in Joburg. There were drinks on the lawn, and dinner and dancing in a marquee on the tennis court, where we pinned up some fabric for some studio madness with the guests. The property was heaven to photograph at, with red brick buildings, classic cars and tons more.

They made an effort with vintage touches and so we were surrounded by all that we love to photograph.

Izak was so laid back. He played the part in the portrait sessions with such ease because, we think, he really is that cool.

Riette, just elegant, so very very elegant.

Izaks Grandad, cool guy.

"I was worried everyone would think i was mad for photographing the window behind them because they didn't know it was their reflection in the window that i was after. you know what i mean? So i waited till a prayer and then did it, haha. I'm sure one of them saw me and must have though...they're behind you china. Funny..." travis

This picture is straight out of the camera. There was a huge stained glass window, from floor to ceiling, behind them which flared and glared all over the place. Usually we'll edit for this feel, this time we didn't have to. Score!

The studio was crazy, dammit people had fun!

Great wedding. Even rain and a flooding marquee couldn't stop these folk from having a good time.
